[Explanation] Traditional Dong architecture is famous at home and abroad for its unique and exquisite craftsmanship. It does not need to spend "one nail and one rivet" during construction, and only relies on tenon and tenon connections between wood. The craftsmanship is unique and ornamental. At the same time, the structure Sturdy enough to withstand years of wind and rain.

In Liuzhou, Guangxi, a Dong craftsman made various miniature models of Dong dwellings, in this unique way, people can more intuitively experience the wooden charm of Dong architecture.

[Explanation] The craftsman's name is Yang Yundong, 41 years old this year.

From the age of 13 and a half, he followed his father and master to learn the construction skills of Dong nationality wooden structures.

With the continuous improvement of technology, Yang Yundong and his technical team have undertaken many construction projects of traditional Dong buildings such as Drum Tower and Wind and Rain Bridge, among which there are many well-known architectural works at home and abroad.

In the opinion of Yang Yundong, who has been in the industry for more than 20 years, the construction skills of the Dong people's wooden structures are a deep knowledge, and they have been passed down from generation to generation in their unique way. Inherit the password.

"Mo Shiwen" is our architectural symbol, the main function (that is) to record the names of our pillars, for example, the central pillars, golden pillars and eaves pillars of our traditional buildings.

The core (recording method) of "Mo Shiwen" is the bamboo slip. Each bamboo slip is at each mortise. Use it (Mo Shiwen) to record the size of the mortise, and then get these data to the required level. Open (chisel) the tenon (of the wood) to go on.

[Explanation] There is no systematic architectural standard for Dong architecture, and the "Mo Shiwen" representing architectural data is like a book from heaven, which is difficult to understand.

In order to allow others and customers to understand the architectural plan more intuitively, Yang Yundong thought of using the simplest materials to make a model of the architectural plan in equal proportions for reference, and then it got out of hand.

If you first started modeling, it was after 2000, when you just graduated, that is to say, you can gradually become independent, and you can pick up some work yourself without the guidance of a master.

Then, through what projects and buildings people want to do, they use some sticks, even toothpicks, barbecue sticks, etc., and reed sticks to intersperse them, make a simple model, and show people the structure. It turned out to be like this, and it was gradually done more and more finely.

[Explanation] With the improvement of model making skills, carefully polished materials are constantly interspersed in his dexterous hands, and the models he makes are getting more and more refined.

Yang Yundong introduced that the production of each model often took him a lot of time and effort, and he tried to replicate the wooden structure of the Dong architecture.

Because we do some architectural models, once we do it, we want to make it the ultimate.

There are some models that are made a little better, and it even takes half a year. It is normal to make a model in a few months. My biggest (production) effort is still spent on the structure, (because) it is a design solution. .

[Explanation] The model has also become an excellent teaching aid for explaining the wooden craftsmanship of the Dong nationality.

Using these models, Yang Yundong brought the wooden construction craftsmanship of the Dong nationality into the classroom, and has taught more than 20,000 students in universities, middle and primary schools. Many teachers and students came to Yang Yundong's studio to learn the wooden construction craftsmanship, which was widely welcomed by people.

The (models) on my side are mainly based on teaching materials, and these buildings (most of the models) can be dismantled, and can be reassembled after dismantling them.

He (students) went to see the Drum Tower, but he couldn't see the structure inside, I made this (model), they (can) directly disassemble it, so that students can more easily understand the construction of our traditional wooden buildings Way.

[Explanation] Yang Yundong said that the construction of wooden buildings of the Dong nationality is still a very unpopular skill. He hopes to explain through his own models to attract more young people to join the inheritance of traditional national architectural culture. The addition of young blood can make traditional Wooden buildings come to life.

I hope that these undergraduates and postgraduates majoring in architecture will actively join in the construction (inheritance) of our national traditional craftsmanship.

Because they all have culture, people with culture and people without culture are completely different when they build something.
