Made public three days ago, the third part of the assessment report written by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) highlights four "levers" to counter the climate threat: developing green energies , capture greenhouse gases, reduce methane emissions and develop “green finance”.

“Inaction is always more costly than action”

Hydrologist Emma Haziza points out that these areas are increasingly relevant because “renewable energy sources – wind and solar – have now become more accessible because they are much cheaper”.

CO2 capture can be based on “increased revegetation via the reconstitution of primary forests, the conversion of agricultural land, etc”.

“In this report, what we understand is that inaction will always be more costly than action anyway,” concludes the scientist.

For her, the costs of preventive actions will indeed be infinitely lower than those of the consequences of global warming (bad weather, drought, pollution) on the entire planet.
