While the Minister of Health assured this morning that the peak of the rebound in contaminations has passed in France, they continue to insinuate themselves to the top.

ECB President Christine Lagarde announced on Thursday that she had tested positive for Covid-19.

“This morning I tested positive for Covid-19”, tweeted the Frenchwoman, specifying that her infection had “no impact on the operations of the ECB”, even if it occurs one week from a Board of Governors meeting.

This morning I tested positive for COVID-19.

I am vaccinated and boosted, and my symptoms are thankfully reasonably mild.

I will work from home in Frankfurt until I am fully recovered.

There is no impact on the ECB's operations.

"My symptoms are fortunately quite mild," added Christine Lagarde, 66, who said she was vaccinated and received a booster dose.

"I will work from home until I recover."

The next regular meeting of the Board of Governors to decide on monetary policy in the face of runaway inflation and fears of recession in the euro zone will take place next Wednesday and Thursday in Frankfurt, Germany.

Lifting of a large part of the restrictions

In early March, the guardians of the euro had decided to accelerate the end of debt buybacks, a sign of concern over rising prices.

But the timetable has been relaxed on the next rate hike, which will come “some time after”.

The number of infections in Germany remains at high levels.

But the hospitals are not saturated and the government has recently decided to lift a large part of the restrictions, and in particular the wearing of compulsory masks in stores and schools.

ECB Vice-President Luis de Guindos contracted Covid-19 last December and attended the press conference following the meeting remotely.
