Nine months after the violent death of a 92-year-old elderly woman, a geriatric nurse in Berlin has been sentenced to twelve years in prison.

The district court found the 41-year-old man guilty of murder and rape resulting in death on Thursday.

The defendant, who worked for the woman as a home care worker, acted with extreme brutality against the "absolutely defenseless" woman.

In fact, the man was heavily intoxicated.

The court ordered the accused to be placed in a rehabilitation center.

"He was her favorite carer," said the presiding judge.

That's why it's so unbelievable what happened.

The 92-year-old returned to her home on July 12 from the hospital where she was treated after a fall.

"She was bedridden, unlike before the fall." That may have worried the accused.

"Heavily intoxicated and influenced by cannabis, the crime occurred," said the judge.

The man, who has no criminal record, is said to have worked for the elderly woman as an employee of a Polish nursing service from autumn 2020.

The Polish national had been described by witnesses as amiable.

The accused sexually assaulted the ninety-two-year-old with an “excess of violence,” the verdict said.

The fact is a result of his tendency to consume too much alcohol.

The prosecutor had asked for 15 years in prison.

Defense attorneys had filed a guilty verdict on intoxication for the forty-one-year-old, who had cited missing memories.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.
