The city of Valence (Drôme) has announced the upcoming installation of 185 CO2 sensors in its schools, an average of one device for two classes.

54 similar but mobile devices had already been present in the canteens of schools in the municipality for several months.

They analyze the air quality in the rooms, in the midst of a health crisis linked to the coronavirus.

An expense of 40,000 euros

The devices are programmed to "check that the air renewal is correctly carried out and, if not, that it is necessary to take corrective measures", explained a representative of the City quoted by

The cost of this operation amounts to 40,000 euros.

The budget had been considered too large by the town hall when municipal councilors from the opposition group Left Ecologist and Popular had asked for the purchase of the sensors.

Since then, however, the State has indicated that it wants to contribute to financing the installation of these devices in classrooms.

Valencia should receive around 39,000 euros.
