The verdict of the Finistère Assize Court fell on Friday evening.

Convicted of the murder of his 3-year-old son, Vincent Person was sentenced to twenty-eight years in prison by the jurors.

In June 2019, he stabbed his boy four times in the throat in Plouneventer (Finistère), causing the death of little Thibaut.

He then tried to kill himself, without succeeding, before calling the gendarmes himself in the early morning.

Thursday and Friday, the victim's father appeared alone before the Quimper Assize Court to try to explain this inexplicable act.

To justify himself, the accused declared that he wanted to "punish" the mother of the child, from whom he had been separated for three months at the time of the tragedy.

The respondent had been the subject of several complaints from the mother, who complained of harassment since their separation.

According to

Ouest-France

, the accused had sent 2,400 text messages in three months, sometimes bombarding her with calls, such as one evening when he had tried to reach her 400 times in a few hours.

A message that the worst was yet to come

On the evening of the tragedy, the father had tried to reach the mother several times.

He then sent her a message that announced the worst: "You will keep this weight on your shoulders all your life", as

Ouest-France

reports .

While he was incarcerated, he had written to his ex that their boy “would still be there” if she had answered his calls that June evening.

During the hearing, Vincent Person for the first time expressed regret towards the child's mother and her family.

The Assize Court sentenced him to twenty-eight years' imprisonment.
