A new subtype of the omicron mutant has been discovered in China

China recorded more than 13,000 new cases of the Corona virus, while state media reported a case of a new subtype of the "Omicron" mutant.

The new form of the virus evolves from the “PA1.1” branch of the “Omicron” mutant, according to the “Global Times” newspaper, citing genetic sequence data from local health authorities, according to the “Bloomberg” news agency today, Sunday.

The report stated that the subtype is not comparable to other coronaviruses, which cause COVID-19 in China.

On the other hand, the Chinese Xinhua News Agency today quoted the Chinese National Health Commission as saying that the Chinese mainland recorded, on Saturday, 1,455 new locally infected cases of COVID-19.

In its daily report, the commission added that of the mentioned local infection cases recorded on Saturday, 956 were recorded in northeastern Jilin Province, 438 in Shanghai Municipality, and 11 in Zhejiang Province.

More than 10 provincial-level regions have reported new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases.

As of Saturday, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the Chinese mainland had reached 154,738, including both domestic and imported cases.
