The scapegoat theory

The documentary also analyzes the emergence of new anti-Semitic formulas that are developing on social networks.

They are often initiated by conspiracy theorists.

Elsa Guiol and Étienne Mélou, directors of the survey, explain how the global pandemic has reactivated these old anti-Semitic theories in France: "In times of crisis, you always have to find a scapegoat and this Jewish conspiracy theory is the theory of the ultimate scapegoat", observes Etienne Mélou on Europe 1.

“Indeed, from the start of confinement, we saw theories reappear because we were facing an exceptional event to which we had no answer. In the minds of people who are inclined to believe in conspiracy theories, it was easy to come across this type of theory and propagate them in turn”, analyzes Elsa Guiol.

Presence on Tik-Tok

Elsa Guiol and Étienne Mélou also draw the new face of anti-Semitism in France: "There are members of the fachosphere like Alain Soral and Dieudonné who are known and condemned figures. But, in their wake, figures of increasingly well-known on social media who are the influencers of ‘alternative health.’ There are also people who, over the months of the pandemic, have taken to sharing anti-Semitic theories without even realizing it For the people in the demonstrations who wore yellow stars, there was nothing anti-Semitic about it. That's where the danger lies," said Elsa Guiol.

"These anti-Semitic actors have also invested in new platforms like Tik-Tok to reactivate their old anti-Semitic myths and reach a new audience that had never been exposed," concludes Etienne Mélou.
