[Explanation] In the 1950s, a batch of national first-class cultural relics-Yuan Dynasty banknotes were unearthed at Nuomuhong Farm, Dulan County, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province.

Due to the long history, circulation and long-term burial, some banknotes are seriously damaged and cannot be displayed and studied.

[Explanation] In October 2015, with the joint efforts of cultural relic restoration experts from Qinghai Provincial Museum and Nanjing Museum, these severely damaged Yuan Dynasty banknotes started their "rebuild" journey.

[Explanation] According to Han Qiulin, assistant librarian of the Cultural Relics Protection Center of Qinghai Provincial Museum, the particularity of Yuan Dynasty banknotes is that the front and back of the banknotes have patterns, characters and other information that highlight the historical value of cultural relics. This is also a difficulty in repairing. The "sticking method" will cover the information on the back of the banknotes, which is another damage to the cultural relics.

[Explanation] Han Qiulin told reporters that when they were studying the production methods of ancient banknotes, they found that the Yuan Dynasty banknotes were made by the pouring method. From the perspective of cultural relics protection and restoration, if the same method as the original process can be used for restoration, more It can reflect the wisdom of ancient artificial paper technology.

[Explanation] As a result, the cultural relic restoration experts of the project team continued to test and improve by visiting non-genetic inheritors of papermaking in various places, consulting historical materials, and finally researched a pouring method that would not cover the information of the banknotes and return the banknotes to their original appearance. , Drip pulp repair technology.

The broken and broken parts of the banknotes are poured with the toned and dyed mulberry pulp, so that this batch of "new" banknotes without losing the "old-fashioned feeling" has entered people's field of vision and continues to tell the stories they witnessed in the past.

[Live sound] Chen Jiali, an associate research librarian at the Cultural Relics Protection Center of Qinghai Provincial Museum, basically uses the recombination of hydrogen lines to form a new paper.

In the process of making up, you must pay attention to the technique, and make it uniform. You cannot make up thick areas that are particularly thick and thin areas that are particularly thin.

[Explanation] In February 2022, the technology was awarded a national invention patent and applied in the protection and restoration of more than 70 national first-class cultural relics.

[Live sound] Wu Haitao, research librarian of Qinghai Provincial Museum Cultural Relics Protection Center, we also dyed many kinds of dyes, and then finished pulping, pouring and drying, and then compared with the base paper. If it is wrong, which color is heavier and which is lighter, we Then add and subtract accordingly.

[Explanation] "Flowering water pattern border" is also one of the characteristics of Yuan Dynasty banknotes. Some of the repaired banknotes have to be reprocessed with tweezers through the technique of "bird's nest picking" because the edges are too flat, so that the edges of the banknotes can be seen Up "Qi" rather than "false".

Because Han Qiulin is like this kind of banknote (repair), one of its key points is how to repair the texture and color of the banknote, so today's demonstration is just a demonstration of our entire process.

Like this pouring method, we can only say that during our pouring process, we were thinking that it might have been poured like this before, and then they would have to print on it after pouring. This kind of feeling is very subtle, it feels like we are in We do the same thing as them, except that we repair what they have done in our own way. After thousands of years of transformation, we repair it and show it to the audience.
