White start to spring in Hamburg: On the last day of March 2022, the Hanseatic city wakes up on Thursday with snow-powdered roofs and treetops.

After an above-average sunny and recently mild March, the winter weather returns to Germany at the end of the month.

As reported by the German weather service in Offenbach, it can also snow on Thursday in the northern half of Germany.

One to five centimeters of fresh snow are possible in Emsland and East Friesland by noon.

The snow line drops from 800 meters to 400 meters in the northern low mountain ranges.

Next week the temperatures will slowly rise again, said the meteorologist Marcus Beyer from the German Weather Service in Offenbach on Wednesday.

"But we're still a long way from the sun and the warmth of spring." In the low mountain ranges, even the sled can be unpacked again: there, with permafrost, 10 to 20 centimeters of snow are possible by the weekend.

In the south, on the other hand, it will often be gray on Thursday, with isolated precipitation and brief thunderstorms possible.

Only the people in the northeast can count on friendly weather.

From the Lower Rhine to Schleswig-Holstein, the temperatures are between one and five degrees, otherwise five to ten degrees are possible.

On Friday it will be a little colder.

It can snow in the south, but sunshine dominates in the north.

It's similar on Saturday.

The night on Sunday will probably be the coldest April night, announced meteorologist Beyer and points out the danger for the fruit trees in bloom.

Temperatures drop to between zero and minus seven degrees almost everywhere in Germany.

In the higher middle positions, even minus ten degrees are possible.
