Paul McCartney has a new fight.

The Beatles echoed animal rights group PETA's call to encourage big companies like Starbucks to stop charging extra when customers ask for plant-based milk.

As he prepares, as part of his world tour, to pass through Seattle, the city where the headquarters of the take-away coffee giant is located, the singer wanted to send a strong message.

“I recently learned that Starbucks in the United States is applying a supplement for plant milks over cow's milk.

I have to say this surprised me as I understand that in other countries like UK and India both types of milk are charged the same price.

More greenhouse gases

According to PETA, cow's milk generates three times more greenhouse gases than plant-based milk and requires nine times more land.

It takes 628 liters of water to produce one liter of milk, while it takes 90% less to make soy or oat milk.

“My friends at PETA are campaigning for this.

I sincerely hope that, for the future of the planet and animal welfare, you will be able to implement this policy…”, added the artist.

A vegan for several decades, Paul McCartney had already teamed up with PETA in 2020 for a campaign against cruelty in slaughterhouses.
