Living with half a skull and hoping to get the other half back from 'Freezer'

An American woman has developed a fatal sinus infection that has resulted in the loss of half of her skull.

Doctors first prescribed antibiotics to Natasha Gunther, 25, when she was diagnosed with a sinus infection.

But when her symptoms worsened, the martial arts instructor ended up in the hospital where she underwent emergency neurosurgery to remove half of her skull.

Natasha, from California, US, is now left with a big smile in her head, as she bravely shares her story on TikTok to raise awareness of the seriousness of sinus infections.

"It all started because I had a lot of sinus infections last year. I had about five to six of them. I saw my primary doctor who prescribed antibiotics for my regular sinus infection. But it got so bad that I was vomiting a lot and having migraines," says Natasha. Terrible."

She told Natasha how her parents forced her to have a CT scan on December 12 when she was experiencing the biggest trauma of her life.

On the same night, she performed her first emergency brain surgery, and surgeons removed a portion of her skull bones, and discovered that she had a massive amount of streptococcus bacteria caused by sinus infections.

And two days before Christmas, Natasha underwent another emergency brain operation when surgeons removed half of her skull, and in total, they removed about 12-14 cm of the skull and placed it in the freezer.

Natasha's family is proud of the way she turned her experience into a positive one to help others, and she is still recovering just a few months after the operation.

Although Natasha's life has changed forever, she hopes to undergo surgery to restore her original skull or have her skull 3D printed later this year.
