Zheng Qiyuan: Do not give up or force everything

The musical cultural promotion program "The City of Philharmonic" is being broadcast on Dragon TV.

Actor Jung Ki-won's performance in the show is eye-catching.

Recently, Zheng Qiyuan was interviewed by the Beijing Youth Daily video program "Entertainment".

Regarding his performance in the show, Zheng Qiyuan believes that this is what he should do as a professional musical actor. In fact, he was very nervous when performing "The Phantom of the Opera", and he learned a lot in the whole process.

Looking back on his 19-year career in musicals, Zheng Qiyuan said that he never had any ambition to do anything in this field.

Today, Zheng Qiyuan is not complacent, whether he is called an "industry big man" or his representative work is a work for musical theatre students to take the entrance examination. He clearly knows: "I am actually a musical theatre actor. I think that’s actually enough.”

Performing "The Phantom of the Opera" is both tense and exciting

In the program, Zheng Qiyuan and his partner Guo Yaorong performed "The Phantom of the Opera", one of the four major musicals in the world.

Due to the difficulty of the challenge, this work has never been performed on stage by Chinese actors.

In order to present the work perfectly, the two received remote guidance from the music director of the original Phantom of the Opera.

In the presentation of the formal stage, they wore gorgeous dresses and shuttled through different scenes, making people dream back to the romantic Paris Opera House in the early 19th century.

Zheng Qiyuan's relaxed performance fully interprets the corner of the Phantom. Guo Yaorong's highE treble has also won praise from many netizens.

Looking back on this performance, Zheng Qiyuan said that no Chinese musical actor has ever performed "The Phantom of the Opera" in such a complete form on the TV screen before, so this first time was both nervous and exciting for him.

"Because it is the first time to show and perform, although it only lasts for more than 4 minutes, I still hope to do everything perfectly on the stage of "City of Philharmonic", so that friends who like musicals can enjoy it in us. In the performance of the two people, they can find a reason to like musicals more, or they can recognize our program."

The entire performance of "The Phantom of the Opera" is not just performed on the stage, but has to experience changing scenes, going up stairs, corridor bridges, and crossing aisles, requiring actors to perform and pay attention to the deployment of breath, so Zheng Qiyuan came to Zheng Qiyuan. That said, there is indeed a lot of pressure.

After the broadcast, their performances were recognized by the audience, and they were also retweeted and liked by "Phantom of the Opera" creator Andrew Lloyd Webber.

But Zheng Qiyuan feels that this is just what he should do as a professional musical actor.

"Of course I am very happy that my work can be recognized by everyone. As an actor, only by doing a good job in my profession can I give the audience an explanation and be worthy of myself."

face injury while wearing a mask

Some netizens commented that Zheng Qiyuan's performances of the Phantom, the mask, and the black hurricane are highly restored to the characters. However, wearing the mask is indeed a lot of trouble.

Zheng Qiyuan said that when wearing a mask for the first time, everyone didn't know how to fix it firmly on the face, so he tried many methods and failed, including sticking the mask on the face with glue that sticks to the wig. I was dumbfounded when I removed it, and I almost removed my face together.

Finally, I consulted the foreign director of the show, and I found the best way: first fix it on the head with two iron wires, and then connect it with the mask and wear it on the face.

The whole stage gives people a beautiful feeling. In fact, it is covered with dry ice. If the actors are not careful, they will slip.

In the pre-recording several times, Zheng Qiyuan almost slipped every time he turned around, "After going through these ups and downs, we can develop in a good direction. I am very impressed by the foreign directors, who are really dedicated and professional. Take the trouble to communicate the characters to the actors.”

After the show was broadcast, the topic of Zheng Qiyuan's fit with the Phantom also appeared on the hot search list.

But Zheng Qiyuan doesn't particularly care, "For actors, as long as I do my own things well, if I think too much about other things, it will interfere with my creation."

It has been 19 years of deep cultivation of Chinese original musicals

"The City of Philharmonic" gathers 32 musical actors to show the comprehensive strength of singing and dancing through the performance of repertoire fragments, and compete for the ultimate Philharmonic crown. There is cooperation and competition. Zheng Qiyuan admits that the competition is very fierce, but This is what he learned later.

"I didn't know it was a competition program at first, I thought it was just for everyone to ponder dramas, rehearse and practice songs. However, I don't care much about that. Even if I get eliminated, I won't feel very lost or anything."

Therefore, Zheng Qiyuan simply regarded the competition as an opportunity to perform on stage again and again, without thinking about the outcome, success or failure, "What about who wins or who loses? The ultimate goal is to guide and promote musicals and let everyone know. Turns out musicals can be all-encompassing."

So far, Zheng Qiyuan has been deeply involved in Chinese original musicals for 19 years, and his representative works have become the works of musical theatre students, and he is recognized as a "big star" in the industry.

Regarding the many evaluations and titles given by the outside world, Zheng Qiyuan said that if you do anything with a strong purpose, it will often not have good results.

"I'm actually a musical performer, and I don't think I'm a top celebrity. Of course, some of the works I sing can be included in the teaching materials, or can be recognized by the students of the musical, which is naturally very happy and gratifying. "

Changes in mentality after entering the age of no confusion

Zheng Qiyuan likes to sing since he was a child, and thinks he has some talent in music.

When he graduated from junior high school, a teacher from an art school came to recruit students, and at a glance he fell in love with him, whose voice and appearance were excellent.

So, Zheng Qiyuan entered the Shenyang City Art School to study vocal music in 1995.

At the art school, Zheng Qiyuan followed the teacher's advice and learned the bel canto.

But in fact, he prefers to sing pop songs - at that time, the Four Heavenly Kings were all the rage, and many of the classmates around him had gone to learn pop singing, but the teacher had a discerning eye and decided that he was a good material for learning Bel Canto.

Zheng Qiyuan also lived up to expectations. Three years later, he was admitted to the Vocal Music Department of Shenyang Conservatory of Music to study vocal singing and opera performance. After graduation, he was admitted to the Opera Troupe of China Opera and Dance Theater with excellent results.

After becoming an actor in the China Opera and Dance Theater, Zheng Qiyuan starred in many musicals, including "Sands", "In That Far Away", "Bird's Nest · Attraction", "Little Times", "Shanghai Bund", "Love in Memory of Alz", etc. Well-known in the industry.

During this period, he also participated in many music competitions, including the Liaoning Provincial Youth Singer Competition, and won the Excellence Award; the 10th CCTV National Young Singer Competition, which won the Excellence Award; the first National Popular Singer Competition, won the Beijing Division Gold Award… ...In 2019, he participated in Hunan Satellite TV's original inspirational vocal competition program "Sound into the Heart Season 2" as a singing member.

These programs make Zheng Qiyuan's name really "popular", but the original intention of participating in these programs is only one: to challenge myself.

Along the way, from graduating from university to entering the national troupe, to engaging in musicals, and then starring in many well-known plays, in the eyes of many people, this experience is smooth enough and eye-catching, but in fact, it is simple and casual. The mentality pushed him through a period of dazzling or bleak time.

Zheng Qiyuan said that if he did not choose the career of musical theatre, he might just be an ordinary otaku who would be satisfied drinking "happy fat house water".

"I have always felt that I am a person without great ambitions. If there is anything I am very satisfied or regretful about, it is when I interpret a work or sing a song, I perform well or fail to meet expectations. I will be very satisfied or very disappointed.”

Zheng Qiyuan said that when he was in his twenties or thirties, he was always anxious when things went wrong, especially in the music career, he always liked to compete with himself, and sometimes he felt unwilling.

Unconsciously, he has entered the age of no confusion. Zheng Qiyuan clearly feels that his mentality has begun to change: everything follows fate, does not give up and does not force, "What should come will always come, and what should not come will not be forced. But you Be ready at all times. I think it's very good, I'm happy and comfortable every day, that's enough."
