Governance of private schools has become an issue, such as the conviction of the former president of Nihon University, but the special committee of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, which has been considering reforms, supervises the board of directors of the school corporation. We have compiled a report that includes the strengthening of authority.

Last year, an expert meeting of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) made a proposal on reforming the governance of school corporations that operate private schools. Since January, a series of opposition voices have been heard from the people concerned, and since January, it has been reconsidered by a special committee in which school people also participated.

As a result, the report on the 29th will be finalized, and in principle it will be prohibited to hold concurrent positions so that directors and councilors can monitor each other, and the method of appointing and dismissing the president currently set for each university will be stipulated by law. Was included.

The board of councilors should not be the "highest body" recommended by the expert council, but should be given the authority to request the dismissal of the board members only when the board of directors is not functioning. In the case of a school corporation that operates a junior college, reforms should be promoted by strengthening the supervisory authority, such as the need for a vote of the board of councilors for important matters such as mergers and dissolutions.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology is considering submitting relevant bills after making public comments.
