On February 18, 2022, this man was sentenced by the Assize Court of Isère to life imprisonment, with a security period of 22 years, for the murder of Maëlys de Araujo.

The child had disappeared, in August 2017, during a wedding evening in Pont-de-Beauvoisin (Isère).

She was found dead six months later.

Lie rather than "fall apart"

During his trial, the 39-year-old former soldier, already convicted in May 2021 for the murder of Corporal Arthur Noyer, ended up admitting to having voluntarily kidnapped and killed the girl.

If he recognized his "pedophile" inclinations, he always fiercely denied any sexual motive about Maëlys, claiming that his death was accidental.

The too degraded state of the child's body did not allow us to provide an answer on this subject.

And it was not possible to see more clearly on this point during this trial.
