Morocco warns of gangs promoting abortion drugs on social media

Moroccan health authorities have warned of gangs promoting abortion drugs on social media. Moroccan media said that a number of abortion drugs are being promoted through social media in the country.

"A number of drugs are being promoted for sale via the Internet and social media platforms, including the drug "Artotec", which is used for abortion and whose sale has been suspended by the Ministry of Health in Morocco since July 2018," Hespress said.

She added: “The sale of this drug is done by promoting its effectiveness in abortion;

This is prohibited in the country and requires criminal prosecution.”

The Vice-President of the National Federation of Moroccan Pharmacists Syndicates, Mohamed Hawachi, commented on this matter, saying: "The aforementioned drug is prohibited and pharmacists have nothing to do with its promotion."

He added, "The reason for banning this drug lies in the fact that it is used for purposes other than those for which it is prescribed, that is, it is used for abortion," explaining that "some drugs have a specific purpose;

But it is used for another purpose.

As for the method of its entry into Morocco, it is expected that it will be among the drugs that enter through smuggling, especially since it is a drug circulating globally and that the ban is only in Morocco.

He pointed out that there are "gangs that have secret warehouses, either for smuggling or for making the vital material for this drug and manufacturing and selling it illegally," noting that the role of the Ministry of Interior in this aspect is to track the promoters through the Internet.
