Thousands of people have to be brought to safety in eastern Australia for the second time this month due to flooding caused by heavy rains.

With river levels rising, authorities on Tuesday ordered another evacuation order for the town of Lismore, in northern New South Wales, which was one of the hardest hit by record flooding a month ago.

Many buildings in some of the most severely affected regions would probably be flooded again.

There was also a risk of flash floods as the heavy rain was expected to continue for the next 24 hours.

The state of Queensland is again affected.

A man died there after his vehicle got stuck in the floodwaters - the second fatality from the recent floods.

In the region, people are still struggling with the aftermath of the flood disaster at the beginning of March.

At least 21 people lost their lives at that time, hundreds of houses were swept away by the water masses, and many farms lost their livestock.

Much of the rubble has not yet been removed.
