When the Russian army launched its invasion on Ukraine, Sean Penn was present in the country to make a documentary there.
After leaving the country, the actor decided, not to return to the United States, but to stay in Poland as did the thousands of Ukrainian refugees to whom he decided to help.
During a press conference in Krakow on Wednesday, the
Mystic River
star promised to continue supporting Ukrainians through his non-profit organization CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort).
“We intend to stay the course.
This is one of the most heartbreaking times in most of our lives for the world at large and it is a crisis as a whole, ”he said during this press conference transcribed by

.
A crisis that will last
“This crisis is going to last for some time and I think my answer to this question will be the same as that of all CORE members and all people of good will, which is that I will do everything I can do.
Whether it's staying here, coming back many times, or just coming back to shake hands with the people doing the work.
They can count on me as I count on them, ”continued Sean Penn.
Currently, the actor and his organization are concentrating their efforts on the city of Krakow, with which he has signed an agreement to this effect.
While the number of refugees who have fled Ukraine is estimated at 3 million, almost half have reached Poland and remain there, hoping to be able to return to their country in the near future.
