Fumimaro Takaku, a professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo who was the chairman of the Japanese Association of Medical Sciences and the president of Jichi Medical University, died on the 24th.

He was 91 years old.

Fumimaro Takaku was born in 1931, graduated from the University of Tokyo School of Medicine in 1954, made many achievements in research on hematopoietic cells, and was a professor at Jichi Medical University and the University of Tokyo.



He played a central role when the Bone Marrow Transplantation Promotion Foundation, the predecessor of the Japan Bone Marrow Bank, was established in 1991, and later served as chairman.



He has also been a leader in Japanese medicine and medicine, having served as president of the National Center for Global Health and Medicine and president of Jichi Medical University, and has been chairman of the Japanese Association of Medical Sciences since 2004.



In recognition of these achievements, he received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1994 and the "Ruiho Daihosho" in 2012.



According to the Japan Association for Development of Community Medicine, chaired by Mr. Takahisa, Mr. Takahisa died on the 24th at the age of 91.
