An episode of suspended particle pollution has affected Nord-Pas-de-Calais since Monday.
The mild weather favors the persistence of the phenomenon which should last at least until Friday.
Speed limits have been put in place but not yet differentiated traffic.
It's spring and that's good, especially since the sun wanted to mark the occasion in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais by honoring us with its presence since Sunday.
But it is also since that day that fine particle pollution (PM10) scratches our throats.
For suspended dust, the regulatory level, set at 50 µg/m3, is exceeded daily, and the two departments are thus placed on “persistence alert” at least until Friday.
It will be 5 consecutive days, Friday, that the inhabitants of the Nord and Pas-de-Calais experience an episode of air pollution.
A phenomenon almost inseparable from mild weather.
And as the good weather seems to be settling in the region, we can fear that the particles will persist for a long time in our atmosphere and our lungs.
However, the prefect of the North defense and security zone has not yet drawn the weapon of differentiated traffic.
Speed limit on expressways
On Wednesday, he issued an order to try to limit the effects of pollution, in particular by lowering the speed by 20 km / h on roads limited to 110 and 130 km / h.
This order is still valid today.
However, at the time of writing these lines, there was no question for the authorities to move up a gear, namely to impose differentiated traffic.
Asked about this by

, the prefecture did not respond.
Based on the famous Crit'Air vignettes, differentiated traffic can be decreed in Hauts-de-France by the prefect since 2017. But the device supposed to limit pollution has only been used about ten times, especially between February and April 2019, and not once in the past two years.
