Seine-et-Marne has only an average of six general practitioners per 10,000 inhabitants, show recent figures from the Regional Union of Health Professionals (URPS).

These professionals are currently 819 in number in the department, out of a total of 1,205 independent doctors.

They are fewer and fewer, notes

Increased medical need

The Departmental Council thus indicated that for 75 general practitioners leaving Seine-et-Marne, only 25 came to settle there.

Over the past ten years, 21% of these healthcare professionals have terminated their activity, by moving or retiring.

At the same time, the departmental population is aging and increasing, generating increased needs and a medical desert.

84% of the inhabitants of the territory now live in areas where private doctors are lacking.

The phenomenon does not spare specialists.

Over the past ten years, the number of dermatologists has halved, while 40% of gynecologists and a third of ENT specialists have disappeared.
