"stay up the latest night, sleep the least", many young people nowadays have more or less sleep problems.

Last week, a survey of 1,532 young people surveyed by the Social Survey Center of China Youth Daily and the questionnaire network (wenjuan.com) showed that 65.0% of the young people surveyed fell asleep after 23:00.

71.6% of the young people surveyed would watch short videos when they stayed up late.

65.4% of the surveyed young people are troubled by sleep problems. Difficulty falling asleep, light sleep, and excessive dreams are the three main sleep problems.

Among the respondents, post-00s accounted for 31.0%, post-95s accounted for 26.9%, post-90s accounted for 27.5%, and post-85s accounted for 14.6%.

65.0% of the surveyed youth go to bed after 23:00

Guo Xiaodi from Changsha, Hunan is 29 years old and works in a private company.

She fell asleep in the early morning almost every day.

"Sometimes there will be some urgent tasks at work, and I will stay up late. And the pace of work during the day is relatively fast. Only in the time when I am alone at night can I do some thinking and summary. When I have nothing to do, I also go to shopping websites and brush WeChat, Weibo”.

Sun Biyao, a graduate student in Ningbo, Zhejiang, doesn't fall asleep until two o'clock in the morning every day.

"Before going to bed, read novels, scan short videos and social software, and play for a few hours. Because I usually study, eat, and spend time with my classmates, I only have free time before going to bed, and I want to do what I like to do. ".

Sun Biyao said that she had a "revenge" mentality of staying up late.

Wei Lai, a graduate student from a university in Chongqing, said that because her study efficiency is higher at night than during the day, she specially arranges to write papers, coursework and reading books at night.

"I do a lot of things before going to bed. In addition to studying, I occasionally watch TV dramas, variety shows, catch up with shopping festivals, watch live shopping, pay the balance, etc. Basically, I fall asleep after 1 am."

She felt that it would be the same if she slept more during the day to make up for it.

Zhang Xiaowei, director of the Nutrition Department of Hebei Provincial People's Hospital, said that some young people lack health knowledge.

"For example, many people think that the total sleep time is enough, and it doesn't matter when to sleep. It happens that they sleep during the day and don't sleep at night, and their work and rest are reversed."

And young people are not very concerned about their health.

"A considerable number of people feel that they are young and can bear it. But the reality is that long-term sleep disorders have a greater impact on the body."

The survey shows that 65.0% of the surveyed young people are used to going to bed late and fall asleep after 23:00.

This proportion is higher than the data results of the survey in the same period last year (59.5%), an increase of 5.5 percentage points.

So what is the current situation of young people falling asleep at night?

The data shows that only 6.0% of the surveyed young people can fall asleep before 22:00, 29.0% from 22:00 to 23:00, 41.0% from 23:00 to 0:00, and 18.2% from 0:00 to 1:00 in the morning , 5.9% fell asleep after 1 am.

What are you doing when you stay up all night?

The survey shows that short videos (71.6%) have become the gathering place, ranking first, far higher than other matters.

It is followed by playing games (36.1%) and watching movies and TV series (35.9%).

Others include: browsing social platforms/website forums (34.1%), reading novels/listening to music (25.7%), working overtime (23.6%), learning to improve yourself (22.5%), etc.

Zhang Xiaowei said that from a health point of view, you should go to bed around 22:30 every night and enter a deep sleep state at 23:00.

Growth hormone secretion peaks between 23:00-1:00.

"Growth hormone is very important to relieve fatigue and maintain health. So 23:00 to 1:00 am is a very important sleep stage."

65.4% of the youth surveyed are troubled by sleep problems

Sun Biyao said that staying up late for a long time made her always very energetic before 3 am, and she couldn't sleep even if she wanted to.

"Sometimes I'm so energetic that I want to go downstairs for a lap, but I don't feel sleepy at all. Once I opened my eyes at 5 a.m. and barely fell asleep."

Frequently waking up suddenly in sleep and having many "strange dreams" is also a sleep problem encountered by Sun Biyao.

65.4% of the surveyed youth admitted that they were troubled by sleep problems.

Post-90s have a higher proportion, reaching 67.2%, followed by post-00s (65.8%).

In terms of specific sleep problems, difficulty falling asleep (47.1%) was the most common, followed by light sleep (39.3%).

Other major problems were: excessive dreams (30.5%), waking up early (30.2%), multiple nighttime awakenings (22.5%), and short sleep duration (20.7%).

Sun Biyao found that it is easy to lose concentration during the day, and her memory is also somewhat impaired.

Sometimes if I stay up late for a long time, my heart beats faster, I feel palpitations, and my chest hurts.

She specially went to the hospital to have two electrocardiograms. "At present, no problems have been found in my body. But the doctor reminded me that my heart discomfort was caused by staying up late, and strongly warned me not to stay up late."

Zhang Xiaowei said that sleep is very important to a person.

"First, if a young person does not pay attention to sleep, his productivity and vitality will be affected. Second, the quality of sleep affects mood. There are two emotional manifestations of poor sleep. One is easy to be depressed and sentimental. Depressed mood. On the other hand, there will be anxiety, irritability, and irritability, such as easy temper tantrums, and always unable to control oneself. This is the emotional change caused by hormone disorders in the body caused by poor sleep. Third, in the body It may cause headaches, gastric ulcers, gastritis, enteritis, and the probability of some tumors will increase.”

He said that the process of human sleep is also a process of body repair.

If the body is not properly repaired, it is prone to adverse consequences.

"If a young person does not pay attention to sleep, the impact is not only physical and emotional, but also has a negative impact on his quality of life and the state of the whole person."
