Adviser to His Highness the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, Counselor Ibrahim Mohammed Bumelha, said that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is the founder and sponsor of this award. Whoever ordered its establishment, closely followed its activities, was keen on it, and always directed His Highness to raise the award and develop it in all Islamic fields, in order to conform with His Highness’ vision to motivate the younger generations to adhere to their religion, realize their duties towards their religion and Islamic message, and raise the spirit of competition in The field of memorizing the Noble Qur’an, and encouraging more effort and time for memorization and intonation.
He added that the award began with a decision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who directed His Highness to develop a vision for the establishment of an international competition in memorizing the Noble Qur’an, bringing together all the sons of Muslims from all over the world, noting that His Highness suggested that it be in the month of Ramadan, and His Highness ordered the formation of a committee With experience and interest, in preparation for the establishment of the first session of the award, the organizing committee worked at the time to hold the first session in the month of Ramadan in 1997, in which more than 60 countries and Muslim communities around the world participated.
In an interview on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, which took an advanced position among Quranic competitions worldwide, and witnessed development and distinction, to include several activities and events held throughout the year, he said, "The award is moving steadily towards greater excellence and leadership. And every year it witnesses a development and a rise in the position it occupies among international competitions.”
Bumelha added: "We were able to overcome many of the challenges that we faced in the first session, due to the great support that I received, and continues to receive, from the founder and sponsor of the award, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum."
He stressed that the award established many concepts about the UAE, and reflected its great role in caring for and sponsoring the Noble Qur’an, honoring its memorizers, allocating prizes and competitions at the international and local levels in the Emirates, and the active participation of citizens and residents in these competitions, and this contributed to familiarizing with the concepts of And the cultures of the countries and communities that participate in these competitions, and thus we find harmony and love that prevail in these events, and feelings of joy through participation in them.
