Does it make any sense to wash your hair 'backwards'?
We know the rule of 3, the one that we were taught as children at school.
And now we have
the 60/180 rule,
which has nothing to do with mathematics and has a lot to do with washing our hair.
A beauty exercise, this one about
the application of the shampoo,
which still generates many doubts and myths around it.
Sometimes you have to re-
lay the cosmetic foundations
for the best results and boast an enviable mane.
Because with hair washing it happens as with facial cleansing: it is the first step for
the hair to be in good shape,
as removing make-up is for the skin to look healthy.
What is the 60/180 hair washing rule?
When it comes to
washing your hair well,
not everything comes down to choosing a good shampoo that suits the type and condition of each hair.
There are some tricks to
imitate professional washing
at home to keep hair clean and beautiful for longer.
And who doesn't envy those hands that wash our hair in hairdressers' sinks, where
the scalp
and hair fiber are conscientiously worked on.
The 60/180 rule is essential to replicate this hairdressing job at home.
But
what are we talking about?
Just as it is a good rule of thumb to
let a cleanser sit
on your face for 60 seconds for it to take full effect,
one minute
is also the time it takes for
the shampoo to work.
According to a study published by an American chain of hairdressing salons, most people do not leave their shampoo on their heads
for more than 20 seconds.
"The ideal would be to work the shampoo
between one and three minutes,
come on, between 60 and 180 seconds," explains
Gabriel Llano,
the Asturian hairdresser with an almost new salon in Madrid, a favorite of
Juana Acosta
or Ana Fernández.
The longer the mane and the more damaged the hair, the
longer the shampoo needs
to work its magic.
And what do we do in the three minutes of shampoo?
Let's see if we understand it well.
We shampoo and… stare into the void of our shower for 180 seconds?
Do we abandon ourselves to meditation or
to the 'eureka moment',
that moment of lucidity where brilliant ideas are born that, say those who know, occurs in the shower, on the bus or in bed?
No, you have to work a little.
Gabriel Llano stresses the importance of
spending at least a minute massaging
the scalp before proceeding to rinse.
"This massage makes it easier for
the shampoo to penetrate well
and for better results when washing," says the hairdresser.
In addition, and although there is no scientific evidence that massages help hair grow faster, they do undoubtedly stimulate blood microcirculation, the key to healthier and shinier hair.
So now you know, the next time you wash your hair,
stopwatch in hand,
apply and massage, it won't be in vain.
