The US billionaire and ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Scott, has donated a total of 436 million dollars (395 million euros) to a homeless organization.

The US aid organization Habitat for Humanity said on Tuesday that the money will be used to build shelters for homeless people in the US and around the world, especially for refugees from Ukraine.

Scott, 51, whose fortune is estimated by Forbes Magazine at $49.3 billion, has made public donations to several hundred organizations.

These include food banks, credit institutions for the disadvantaged and anti-discrimination organizations.

In 2019, MacKenzie Scott, then known as MacKenzie Bezos, joined the Giving Pledge.

It's an initiative launched by multi-billionaires Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett, whose signatories pledge to donate more than half their wealth to charity.

A few weeks earlier, Scott had reached an agreement on the terms of their divorce with longtime husband Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of online retailer Amazon.com.

According to this, she was to receive a quarter of the Amazon shares that the couple had previously held together, which in one fell swoop catapulted her separately from her ex-husband onto various lists of the super-rich.
