• In Lorient, the images of a zigzag cycle path provoked many reactions on social networks.

  • If some Internet users have fun, users criticize them, an impractical layout for cyclists.

  • The mayor of Lorient tried to defend himself, explaining that the work was not finished.

All it took was an image broadcast on the social network Twitter.

Monday evening, a cyclist adept at cycling published a photo of the new cycle path on Avenue de la Marne, in Lorient (Morbihan).

Under construction for several months, the axis that connects the city center of Lorient to its port and its "Base" (economic zone facing the sea) has recently offered a shared space for bicycles and pedestrians materialized by a difference coating and color.

What challenges is the route of this cycle path, which forces its users to a permanent zigzag.

On the networks, many Internet users laughed at it.

But many are also very critical of the layout.

I... I... I don't have the words... The cycling layout is brand new 🤦

Seriously @VilledeLorient @FabriceLoher it was not possible to make a straight line?

Do you think it makes us laugh to zig-zag?

Sharing the sidewalk rather than a two-way track

"I took it, it's not reasonably possible to follow it, and you just have to see the tire tracks of the bikes to realize that the cyclists are shooting straight," says the cyclist behind the photo. .

Contacted by

, this Lorient man is very critical of the new layout.

“The fact that nowhere in France do you see this kind of development is also a small clue to the fact that it is fundamentally bad.

Avenue de la Marne is a structuring axis.

We could have at least expected a nice two-way track”.

The municipality preferred to opt for sidewalk sharing.

The mayor tries to defend himself

Criticized from all sides, UDI mayor Fabrice Loher has tried to defend himself, explaining on Twitter that the development is "really not finished" and denounces "an unfounded trial of intent".

Questioned by

Ouest-France

, the president of Lorient Agglomeration, however, assumes the zigzag route, evoking the need to slow down cyclists on this sidewalk shared with pedestrians on which two schools are installed.

Difficult to swallow for all those who closely follow the planning recommendations published by Cerema (Center for studies and expertise on risks, the environment, mobility and planning).

To defend himself, the mayor also denounces "the misleading angle of the photo" broadcast on the networks.

Except that other images published by our colleagues, in particular from the

Telegram

, attest to the same zigzag route.

Thanks to this slalom, the avenue de la Marne will have succeeded in becoming the most famous cycle path in France in a few hours.

The elected representatives of the environmental group Lorient in common recalled that the presentation of this development had been "far too late".

They do not miss the opportunity to criticize the realization “without any link with the project presented to the inhabitants in committee”.

The political group calls for “an overall vision on the issue of soft mobility”.
