An Asian country announces the cancellation of school exams... for a strange reason

Sri Lanka's Ministry of Education has declared that "school principals cannot take the exams because printers are unable to secure foreign exchange to import the necessary ink and paper".

Last Saturday, Sri Lanka canceled exams for millions of students;

Because the country is running out of printing papers, with Colombo in short supply of dollars to finance imports.

Education authorities have announced that exams will be postponed indefinitely due to an unprecedented shortage of papers, as Sri Lanka is grappling with the worst financial crisis since independence in 1948. Term exams are part of the ongoing assessment process to determine whether students will be promoted to the next grade at the end of the year.

The debilitating economic crisis caused by the lack of foreign exchange reserves to finance essential imports, has led to a decline in the country's fuel, medicine and food rates.
