Recently, Qinghai Lake, known as the "sapphire" of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, has entered a thawing period, gradually shedding its ice coat, and the lake surface is like a broken mirror.

Qinghai Lake is the largest inland plateau saltwater lake in China. It is an important water body that maintains the ecological security of the northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and a natural barrier to control the eastward spread of desertification in the west.

Qinghai Lake usually enters the freezing period in mid-December every year, and is completely thawed in mid-April of the following year. The freezing period lasts for about 5 months.

It is reported that Qinghai Lake Kaihu is divided into "Wen Kai" and "Wu Kai".

"Wukai" refers to the melting and squeezing of the ice surface under the influence of strong winds, and the ice layer accumulates in various forms of ice dams by the lake, making a thunderous sound.

"Wenkai" means that as the temperature rises, the ice surface gradually thins and melts slowly.
