• Launched in December 2021, the Paris-Milan line with Trenitalia has enabled many Lyon residents to go on an Italian getaway in 4.5 hours.

  • Competing with the SNCF, the very advantageous call rates have also benefited travelers between Paris and Lyon.

  • Our readers have generally appreciated this new rail offer, even if details are still to be refined.

Since December 18, Trenitalia has offered direct lines between Paris and Milan, via Lyon, Chambéry and Modane.

We asked our readers what they thought of this new rail offer, and their rather positive feedback shows that Trenitalia's Frecciarossa has become a real competitor to SNCF's TGV.

The frequency of trains will also be increased from April.

Clean trains and an unbeatable price

“Loved it,” writes Alice.

“The train is spacious, bright, calm.

Economy class is equivalent to first class on a TGV… and the price is unbeatable.

The choice is quickly made !

Mario was "surprised to see an agent in front of each car entrance door".

He also traveled second: “Nice spacious entrance, the train smells clean and new, the seat is not exceptional but the price was interesting.

There are outlets everywhere.

Several screens are placed on the ceiling in order to know where we are in our course.

Pascal appreciated the “exceptional comfort and service” of the premium class: “They take care of my heavy luggage, they offer me free drinks and meals on a menu.

The seats are reclining and rotating to choose to be in one direction or the other to watch the landscape.

Punctuality and precise information if there is a slight delay!

Better to manage your reservation online than at the station

Ronan, who has tested both classes, says that “the standard is enough, unless like me you plan to work and all your tools are online.

In this case take the business, the internet connection works much better, you can hold videoconferences all the way except for a few tunnels.

Finally, special mention for the coffee on board which lives up to the reputation of Italian coffee”.

The downside, for Stéphane, is “the marketing of tickets.

As long as you buy online everything is perfect, on the other hand as soon as you buy your ticket at the station you must avoid any change because you will have to go back to the station.

And knowing that there are only two points of sale, one in Lyon and the other in Paris, do not miss it.

A service and a space still perfectible

Other passengers are more measured: “Nothing better, nothing worse” for Fred.

“Much ado about not much more.

The SNCF is very good.

Daniel, who lives in Modane, regrets not being able to "book and take this train from Modane to Chambéry or Lyon Part Dieu, even though it is displayed in my station".

Laurent found the non-responsiveness of Trenitalia in the event of a missed connection “scandalous”: “Milan-Lyon on a Sunday evening, almost 2 hours late, I returned to Bourg-en-Bresse then, I had no more train.

Planted in Lyon!

Trenitalia told me: no correspondence, so it does not concern us.

»

For Aurélien, “the standard class seat of the Frecciarossa is very hard.

The train is also very bright, even too much for my taste to be able to rest.

The tablet is too small to accommodate a 15.6-inch laptop.

Finally, I also found the train quite noisy compared to a TGV”.

Several passengers also complained about announcements that were too long, in three languages, moreover.

But that's very little for Ronan: “I met a beautiful Italian woman who lives south of Turin while I live in Paris, which is to say that this liaison is beneficial for our relationship.
