Over a period of 10 days, the residents of Abu Dhabi can travel in time on a journey to the past to learn about the features of ancient marine life in the region, through the activities of the Maritime Heritage Festival organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, during the period from March 18 to 27, in the “A The Sea” on Abu Dhabi Corniche.

From the first moment, visitors to the festival, which extends over an area of ​​300 square meters, feel that they have moved to one of the marine neighborhoods on the coast of Abu Dhabi in the pre-oil period. Abu Dhabi, about their lives in the past in all its details, and this research was supervised by the Director of Cultural Platforms in the department, Maryam Sultan Al Dhaheri, with a focus on recording the memories of three of Abu Dhabi’s noakhzha, they are: Sinan bin Khadim Al Muhairi, Saeed Al Rumaithi, and Muhammad bin Saber Al Mazrouei.

Randa Omar bin Haider, Director of Cultural Events and Platforms Department at the Department, said that the festival celebrates the maritime heritage of the region, and the historical and heritage customs and traditions of the community of seafarers and practitioners of professions related to sea life in Abu Dhabi.

It also sheds light on the vital economic and cultural role associated with the sea, which continues until now in cooperation with a large number of competent authorities.

The festival includes nine different areas, each of which celebrates an aspect of heritage and marine life, these areas are, the pearl diving village, Majlis Al-Nawakhathah, Mahmal Al-Yazwa theater, Sifah fishermen, the fishermen’s market, falconry show, and the “Zaman Lol” area that restores a period of time. The nineties and its most prominent features, the fishing village, the popular games area, in addition to the main stage of the festival, which witnesses multiple activities and artistic performances every day.

The festival also includes 26 stores displaying products and commodities related to the sea and social life in the past, in addition to the fishermen's market, which is held in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Fishermen Association. Fish auction that takes place daily in the market.

The festival program includes many activities, including the Abu Dhabi Heritage Rowing Boat Race, the finals of the Police Championship for Heritage Games, falconry activities, competitions for heritage games organized by the Emirates Heritage Club, traditional performance and musical performances, and workshops that the public can participate in, and are designed to suit adults and children .
