Italy celebrates the “Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language” at the “International Festival of Arabic Language and Culture”

Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations in Sharjah, carried the message of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to the European community and cultural and knowledge institutions, where he delivered the opening speech, on behalf of His Highness, for the activities of the “International Festival of Language and Culture” Al-Arabiya, organized in its fifth session by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy, and sponsored by the Sharjah Book Authority.

In his speech, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi said: "We assure the world that being proud of the language and national and civilized identity is not an act of isolation, but rather an act of communicating with others, on the basis of respect, understanding, understanding and equality."

He added: “Respecting the private identity, and understanding its importance for building the future, means respecting the identities of others, and language, as everyone agrees, is a major component of identity, because it contributes to its manufacture through its interactions with everything it deals with, and with everything it expresses, that language is a maker of conscience and a carrier of culture. And a message carrier.”

Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi commented on the efforts of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, to advance the reality of the Arabic language, saying: “His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah embodied the importance of the Arabic language, through the project (The Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language), which has issued 17 parts so far, and it is the largest project It is of its kind in the history of the Arabic language, as it chronicles for the first time the vocabulary of the Arabic language, and its transformations through 17 centuries.”

He continued, "The dictionary is not only Arab, but is the property of all humanity. It documents the history of a language that was in direct contact with all the languages ​​of the earth, was affected and influenced by it, and left reciprocal effects in arts and literature, even in spoken languages ​​and dialects, and perhaps the best evidence It is what we preserve so far from the Italian words that we circulate in our daily conversations.”

The opening ceremony of the festival witnessed the screening of a documentary film about the journey of completing the first volumes of the historical dictionary of the Arabic language, and concluded with a concert by a number of Arabic language students at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, led by musician Hani Jerji.

The festival will witness the organization of a number of performances and cultural activities, in addition to an exhibition dedicated to Arab books, during which the Sharjah Book Authority, in a special pavilion, will display a selection of works by Emirati and Arab writers and writers.

The festival was launched on the 17th of this month in Milan, Italy, and is co-organized by the Arabic Language Research Institute (CARA), the University Language Services Center (SeLdA), affiliated with the Catholic University of Milan and the Sharjah Book Authority.
