After the mini-series "9 girls", Emma de Caunes signs "9 guys", a series and a feature film broadcast on Canal + which explores masculinity today.

The actress and director explains to the microphone of Europe 1 behind the scenes of this creation which notably features Thomas VDB and Philippe Katerine.

INTERVIEW

You may already be familiar with the

9 Meufs

series , which explored female desire.

Emma de Caunes returns this time with

9 guys

, a new series that questions today's masculinity.

“We question masculinity a lot in these post-MeToo times. I wanted to see what was happening on the side of the guys”, explains the actress and director at the microphone of Europe 1. “I wanted to give the men, in any case the men I am interested in. That is to say, certainly not toxic masculinity, but somewhat lost masculinity, which asks itself questions, which is perhaps more introverted than women. It seemed obvious to me."

The mini-series 9 guys comes in nine nine-minute episodes where all the little skits take place on the same day and in the same building.

The characters live different stories around love or friendship.

In the casting, Emma de Caunes chose the actors Yannick Renier, Philippe Katerine, Thomas VDB, Baptiste Lecaplain, Arthur Dupont, Calixte Broisin-Doutaz, Solal Bouloudnine, Lucas Devin, Orlando Vauthier and Antoine de Caunes.

“The actors have a different modesty”

After putting the actresses at the center of

9 meufs

, Emma de Caunes discovered particularities in working mainly with male actors.

"It was not so much more difficult," she analyzes.

But it was interesting to see that men have a different modesty, a way of approaching emotions that is not quite that of actresses.

Sometimes they end up having a harder time letting go of their emotions."

As for

9 chicks

, a unit film of 90 minutes brings together all the episodes of the series.

This long format has a few additional scenes and a different construction, in order to cross the stories of the nine characters.

The mini-series 9

 guys

is available from Monday on Canal+ and on MyCanal.

The 90-minute film will be broadcast Monday evening at 9 p.m. on Canal+.
