There is a divorce every two minutes in Egypt... and an official suggests closing the communication sites because it is the reason!

Ibrahim Selim, the head of the Sharia Law Officers Fund in Egypt, said that "divorce cases in Egypt will decrease by 60% if the Internet and social media platforms are closed."

The Egyptian Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics raised the alarm with a report it published a few months ago, in which it revealed an unprecedented high rate of divorce in Egypt in recent times.

The report stated that divorce cases reached about 213,000 cases in 2020, at a rate of one every two minutes, which confirms that this phenomenon has increased in recent years and represents a threat to the social reality in Egypt.

In televised statements, Selim said, "Before the Internet, we had 84,000 divorces in 2008, but this number has now risen to 222,000," noting that social networking sites have caused an increase in the rate of divorce in society.

Salim pointed out that "internet addiction" is a major reason for the increase in divorce cases, for example, some husbands' lack of interest in their wives, and wives who neglect their husbands and their families' rights.

He also stressed that "there are other reasons for divorce, such as the interference of parents" between spouses, which exacerbates marital problems.

Psychology and sociology experts emphasized a number of factors behind this, most notably poor choice and the absence of parity between the two parties, as well as the interference of families in the lives of their children, stressing the need for programs to qualify those who are about to marry to be aware of the nature of married life and its challenges and how to overcome problems.
