The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has risen again.

As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Saturday morning, the value is now 1735. On Friday, the incidence of 1706.3 exceeded the threshold of 1700 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days for the first time.

A week ago the value was 1496.

As the RKI further reported, citing data from the health authorities, the absolute number of new infections reported within 24 hours on Saturday was 260,239.

297,845 new infections were reported the day before, compared to 237,086 a week ago.

The total number of registered cases of infection in Germany since the beginning of the corona pandemic has increased to 18,548,225.

The RKI gave the number of recovered people on Saturday as 14,448,200.

Mathematically, more than 4.1 million people in Germany are currently demonstrably infected with the virus.

According to the RKI, 221 further deaths related to the corona virus were registered within 24 hours.

The total number of corona deaths recorded in Germany rose to 126,867.

The number of corona-infected patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 7.81 according to the RKI on Friday (Thursday: 7.58).

Among them are many people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.

From tomorrow only basic protection

Despite new highs in infections, the amendment to the Infection Protection Act of the government coalition was passed on Friday in Berlin.

The previous Corona rules only apply until this Saturday.

In the future, the state parliaments will decide which regulations continue to apply in which regions.

The opposition rejected the law.

She accused the SPD, Greens and FDP of creating more uncertainty in infection protection with the new regulations.

The AfD rejected all corona protection measures.

In principle, according to the changed legal basis for infection protection, only basic protection with mask and test regulations applies to particularly vulnerable groups and facilities such as old people’s homes and clinics.

Masks are no longer required to be worn in schools, retail and indoor public spaces.

However, the state parliaments can pass stricter regulations for the mask requirement as well as distance and hygiene rules and 2-G or 3-G proof for so-called hotspots.

The prerequisite is the spread of a new, dangerous virus variant in a region or the impending overload of the healthcare system due to high infection rates.

The conditions that are decided according to the new legal basis can remain in force until September 23 at the latest.

However, the federal states can temporarily leave the rules that are still in force until April 2nd and then adopt specifications according to the amended Infection Protection Act.
