A common feeling when standing up warns of a possible heart attack

In a new study, Italian researchers linked high blood pressure when standing up to the risk of heart attack and stroke.

The professor of internal medicine at the University of Padova, Italy, said that the results of the study revealed that the clear increase in blood pressure when switching from a sitting position to standing could be an indication of serious diseases in young people.

He noted that they were somewhat surprised that even a relatively small increase in blood pressure (6 to 7 mm Hg) was predictive of serious heart disease in the long term.

The researchers concluded that a significant increase in blood pressure upon standing remains a predictor of heart attack, stroke, and other major cardiovascular diseases, according to Al Marsad newspaper.

On his part, Palatini said: "The results indicate that blood pressure should be measured when standing in order to customize treatment for patients with high blood pressure.

An approach based on lifestyle changes and blood pressure lowering therapy may be considered for people with hyperreactive or increased blood pressure in response to standing.
