The days are getting longer and the weather is also playing along and makes you want to spend time outdoors: Just in time for the start of spring on this Sunday, the temperatures in Germany are rising sharply.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), there is pure sunshine in most regions.

Only in the west are there still some patches of cloud that will disappear at the beginning of the new week on Monday.

"In the west, temperatures will scratch the 20 degree mark for the first time this year," said a DWD meteorologist in Offenbach on Friday.

Humans and animals are happy

Because the high-pressure area "Peter" is slowly moving towards Denmark and the Baltic Sea, clearing the way for mild air from the south.

Accordingly, the temperatures on Sunday are still between 10 and 15 degrees, on Monday they will be between 13 and 19 degrees.

Only at the sea it remains quite fresh with 10 degrees.

A lot of people are drawn to the outdoors, to the parks or to hiking and cycling.

Many restaurants and cafés have therefore placed tables and chairs outside.

"We are almost overrun with the first rays of sunshine," says an employee of the "Schleusenkrug" beer garden in Berlin's Tiergarten.

"That's because people are starving from the long winter." According to the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga), there is no longer a "deadline" for the start of the season.

The outdoor gastronomy will start as soon as the weather permits.

Spring is even making itself felt in the zoos.

The savannah animals in the Leipzig Zoo now dare to go outside more often, and according to a spokeswoman in the Dresden Zoo, hoofed animals and monkeys are easier for visitors to see.

And the offspring are now showing up in the Berlin Zoo, for example a four to five-month-old baby Parma kangaroo that looks out of its pouch from time to time.
