On Friday in Berlin, the Bundestag passed the amendment to the government coalition's Infection Protection Act.

The previous Corona rules only apply until this Saturday.

In the future, the state parliaments will decide which regulations continue to apply in which regions.

The opposition rejected the law.

She accused the SPD, Greens and FDP of creating more uncertainty in infection protection with the new regulations.

The AfD rejected all corona protection measures.

In principle, according to the changed legal basis for infection protection, only basic protection with mask and test regulations applies to particularly vulnerable groups and facilities such as old people’s homes and clinics.

Masks are no longer required to be worn in schools, retail and indoor public spaces.

However, the state parliaments can pass stricter regulations for the mask requirement as well as distance and hygiene rules and 2-G or 3-G proof for so-called hotspots.

The prerequisite is the spread of a new, dangerous virus variant in a region or the impending overload of the healthcare system due to high infection rates.

The conditions that are decided according to the new legal basis can remain in force until September 23 at the latest.

However, the federal states can temporarily leave the rules that are still in force until April 2nd and then adopt specifications according to the amended Infection Protection Act.

This is how the countries want to deal with the new regulations:

Baden-Wuerttemberg

Baden-Württemberg is clinging to the transition period in order to stick to measures at least until April 2nd.

On Friday, the state government passed a new regulation that will come into force this Saturday.

Not much will change at first.

Above all, the contact restrictions for private meetings and the capacity limits for public events should be abolished.

Means: According to the plans of the state government, unvaccinated people should be allowed to meet again from Saturday without any restrictions - and the football clubs are allowed to fill their stadiums to the last seat again.

Nothing should change in the existing 3-G rule in the southwest, at least for the transition period of two weeks.

Events, restaurants, trade fairs, exhibitions and many other areas of public life may then only be visited by those who have been vaccinated, tested or recovered.

Clubs and discotheques may only enter vaccinated or genesis who are tested at the same time (2-G-Plus).

In the southwest, at least until April 2nd, there is still a general obligation to wear FFP2 masks indoors.

Masks should also continue to be worn in schools and daycare centers, at least for the two-week transitional period.

Compulsory testing in schools continues until the Easter holidays, but testing is only required twice a week.

Bavaria

In Bavaria, the cabinet decided on Tuesday that the previous 2G and 3G access rules and mask requirements should also remain in schools or in retail until April 2nd.

However, the corona requirements for Bavaria's cable cars are being relaxed.

"We will treat cable cars in Bavaria like public transport from Saturday morning," said Head of State Florian Herrmann (CSU) on Friday of the German Press Agency in Munich.

As in Austria and Switzerland, there will then no longer be any access restrictions.

However, masks are still compulsory for the popular trips up the mountains in closed cabins.
