A committee of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has put together a proposal for a review for the first time in 25 years regarding the national notification that stipulates how to work to prevent long working hours for taxi drivers.

The time from the end of work to the next start should be reviewed from the current 8 hours or more, and 11 hours or more should be an effort obligation and at least 9 hours should be secured.

The way taxi drivers work is stipulated in the national notification.

Currently, the maximum number of working hours per month is 299 hours, which means that overtime work exceeds 100 hours, and the time from the end of work to the next start is 8 hours or more.

According to a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the average age of taxi drivers is 59.5 years, which is more than 16 years higher than the average for the entire industry.

Under these circumstances, in order to prevent long working hours, the expert committee of the council, which is made up of representatives of labor and management established by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, has put together a draft revision of the notification for the first time in 25 years.

According to this, the upper limit of working hours per month will be reduced by 11 hours to 288 hours, and the basic effort will be to make the time from the end of work to the next start 11 hours or more, with a minimum of 9 hours. It must be secured.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare wants to revise the notification and start new work style rules in 2024.
