“Pharmaceuticals in Egypt” warns of “toxins” invading the markets

The General Division of Medicines in Egypt has warned against the circulation of a large number of fraudulent and counterfeit nutritional supplements produced by factories described as “beer peace” and are now invading the Egyptian market.

Al-Watan newspaper quoted Ali Auf, head of the General Division of Pharmaceutical Companies, as saying that the pharmaceutical companies appealed to the Minister of Health and demanded that he stop registering nutritional supplements and prevent the circulation of 68 nutritional supplements, a number that does not conform to specifications that are widely published in the markets.

The head of the General Division of Pharmaceutical Companies said: The circulation of these nutritional supplements threatens human health in a very big way because they are toxins that are being traded.

He pointed out that nutritional supplements, vitamins, minerals and fibers are placed in tablets, and a person uses them to compensate for what he misses in his daily diet, or in order to contribute to building the muscles of the body, the most important of which are vitamin C, zinc and octoferrin.

The Head of the Pharmaceutical Division pointed out that the new registration mechanisms set by the Food Safety Authority are safe, as procedures have been taken to easily register producing companies and shorten the periods of approvals conducted by companies, and the continued registration of these supplements with the Institute of Nutrition provides an opportunity for companies to manufacture fraudulent supplements and promote them through Facebook and remote pharmacies about oversight.

The Division calls for the necessity of stopping the registration of nutritional supplements at the Institute of Nutrition, based on the circular of the Ministry of Health to prevent the circulation of a group of nutritional supplements.
