Thirty years after climbing the stairs for 

, American star Tom Cruise is back on the Croisette to present the sequel to

, one of the most anticipated blockbusters of the coming months, organizers announced Thursday.

"Tom Cruise returns to Cannes with

 ", which will be shown on May 18 on the Croisette, declared the general delegate of the Cannes festival Thierry Frémaux during a press conference devoted to his new partnership with France Télévisions and Gross​.

The film is scheduled for May 25 in French cinemas.

The festival will pay a “special tribute” to the American actor and to the “absolutely unique and singular trace that he is leaving in the history of cinema”, added Thierry Frémaux.

adds that this tribute will be accompanied by a conversation with the journalist Didier Allouch.

The Festival will be held from May 17 to 28, 2022, and the official selection must be unveiled on April 14.
