In 2021, crime was the second concern of French people behind health, in the context of the health crisis due to the Covid-19 epidemic, according to the annual study by the Ministry of the Interior on the feeling of insecurity published this Thursday.

Health first

Health is designated as the "most worrying" problem in society by 22% of French people aged 14 and over, followed by delinquency (20%).

Next come poverty (14%), terrorism (13%), unemployment (12%), the environment (9%) and racism (8%), according to the annual survey “Living environment and security ( CVS)”, carried out by INSEE and the statistics service of the Ministry of the Interior (SSMSI).

Terrorism in 2017 and 2019

From 2017 to 2019, terrorism was the top concern, the study recalls.

In 2021, people aged 60 and over are the most concerned about health (25%).

Those under 30 are more concerned about the environment and racism (15% and 11% respectively compared to 5% and 4% for those aged 60 and over), according to the study.

Same for men and women

The ranking of concerns is identical for women and men, with some nuances.

Women are "more concerned about poverty than men (15% against 12%), while delinquency concerns men more than women (20% against 17%)", notes the survey.
