On the 17th, a small boat capsized off the coast of Fudai Village, Iwate Prefecture, and it was confirmed that all three people on board, including a professor at Iwate University, had died.

According to the Kamaishi Coast Guard, the fire department reported that after 5:30 pm on the 17th, "there was information that the ship that left the fishing port in Fudai Village had not returned and was capsized offshore."



A search by the Japan Coast Guard and others found that a small vessel "Jiyomaru" (2.9 tons) capsized about 1 km northwest of the fishing port.



According to the Japan Coast Guard, a small boat was found nearby by


Takashi Matsuto (54), a staff member of the Fudai Village Fisheries Cooperative, and


Tomoaki Goto (54), a professor of the Faculty of Agriculture, Iwate University,


who was found in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest. They were all taken to Japan, but all were confirmed dead.



After that, the captain, Yasufumi Ota (67), was also found on board and was confirmed dead on the spot.



All three were wearing life jackets.



Since the small ship had left the port for research on sea squirts, the Japan Coast Guard has decided to investigate the cause of the capsize in detail.
