Goodbye Covid tests and locked days, in 2021 the French needed fresh air!

The proportion of them who went on vacation in the past year has practically reached the same level as before the pandemic.

Compared to 2020, where several confinements have taken place, 7% more French people have packed their bags, with a preference for holidays in France, according to a study published on Tuesday.

The overall departure rate of French people on leisure stays stands at 67% (it was 68% in 2019), according to the annual Opodo-Raffour barometer.

A "efficient" rate which, according to the press release, is due to several factors: "mass vaccination, the socio-economic shock absorber of 'Whatever it costs', adaptability of the French to situations and respect by the tourist actors of the health recommendations to secure the stays ".

" Catch up "

In addition, the French "wanted to take advantage of the present moment, to make up for the lost time of 2020", it is added.

Thus, 62% of French people left for a long stay, commercial or not, which according to the press release represents a “historic record”, due “to an unprecedented increase in long non-commercial stays (accommodation with family, friends, in a secondary residence).

At the same time, long commercial stays (with paid accommodation) remained at a high level of 39% (+4 points compared to 2020).

For their paid accommodation, the French have sought individual accommodation, spaced out, practical for living everything independently (cooking, outdoors, leisure, etc.) and close to nature.

More than 80% of stays in our beautiful country

Among the French people who left, 77% of them prepared their stay online.

And their favorite destination is largely France.

“84% of French people from mainland France aged 15 and over who left have chosen mainland France”, underlined in the press release Guy Raffour, president of the specialized firm Raffour Interactif, recalling that they “were 90% in 2020” to have done this choice.

The rate of departures abroad or Dom-Tom was 32%, an increase of 12 points compared to 2020 but which does not make it possible to find - given the closed countries - the level of 2019, where this rate peaked at 52%, the statement recalls.

The barometer was carried out from January 17 to 31 by the Cabinet Raffour Interactif, by telephone, with 1,000 French people representative of the population aged 15 and over, according to the cross-quota method.
