  I have been working in the cultural heritage protection industry for a long time, and I deeply feel that the protection of cultural heritage is not the purpose, nor is the use of it. The real purpose is inheritance - the object of inheritance is the present and the future.

Young people are the most active and energetic force in the whole society.

  When working in the Palace Museum, the deepest impression is that young people are more and more fond of the ancient Forbidden City and the youthful Palace Museum.

The old and the young are no longer separated by ravines and face each other from afar, but love, respect and harmony and walk hand in hand.

An important force to communicate between the two also includes the help of young programs such as "I am repairing cultural relics in the Forbidden City", "National Treasure", and "New, Forbidden City".

These programs open a channel for us to communicate with young people, let them start to pay attention to the Forbidden City, approach the Forbidden City, enjoy the Forbidden City culture, and bring the Forbidden City culture home.

  The Forbidden City is just one of the many world heritage sites in China. There are also shining treasure houses of heritage in the vast land of China. They also need to be paid attention to, discovered, recognized and understood.

The good news is that today, the enthusiasm of young people to pay attention to the excellent traditional Chinese culture is growing and surging.

  Let more young people understand, recognize and fall in love with the excellent traditional Chinese culture through the window of the world heritage, and become firm guardians and inheritors. This is a proposition handed to heritage workers by the times, and we must practice mission of the era.

Get rid of "cold style" and be a cultural innovator

  I have always had a desire to integrate the world heritage into the real life of the people, to make more young people fall in love with Chinese traditional culture, and to let China's world heritage go to the world in a vivid cultural attitude.

For this vision, I have traveled hundreds of high school and college campuses and written more than 70 books over the decades.

But how big is the spread?

  The documentary "I Repair Cultural Relics in the Forbidden City" has been viewed by 90 million people as soon as it was launched. We need to spread Chinese traditional culture in various forms.

This is why we decided to focus on the inheritance of world cultural heritage through "Walking Alone for Thousands of Miles - China in Heritage" - to adapt to the updated information technology and forms of the times, to do cultural dissemination to the public, especially the young group.

  The world heritage is little known because of its heavy history and high professional threshold, and it needs to be known urgently because of its outstanding value and unique status.

How to make the world heritage get rid of the "high and cold style" of high and low, build a bridge between knowledge output and public understanding, and build a connection between historical traceability and contemporary needs?

This requires intention and innovation.

  There are three key words: First, "documentary", that is, walking, communicating, visiting, experiencing and practicing down-to-earth, going deep into the heritage sites with their own characteristics and values, truly displaying the marvelous landscapes of the heritage sites, and vividly presenting the humanities. The picture, originally revealed the historical mystery, and speculatively explored the current development.

  The second is "interaction". Through interaction, the psychological distance with the documentary object is shortened, and the distance with the public is also shortened.

Documentary objects include world heritage watchers, historical revealers, archaeological excavators, admiring tourists, happy residents and other groups.

  The third is "variety shows", how to express academic knowledge, how to cut into the interactive process, and how to make the world heritage worthwhile, readable, rewarding, and savoury.

Through comprehensive art forms such as indoor interpretation, outdoor communication, interactive participation, immersion experience and technology implantation, we build a voice context that can attract young audiences in the new era.

  We know that today's young people have their own knowledge reserves, ways of thinking, thinking characteristics and information access channels, and they have long been dissatisfied with indoctrination and textbook-style preaching.

Therefore, what we want to start is the cultural tourism, philosophical tourism and new tourism that they travel in the world heritage.

Inspiring the youth of World Heritage

  In fact, the world heritage field has always focused on young people and related topics.

Since 1995, a World Heritage Youth Forum has been held concurrently with each World Heritage Conference, focusing on the concerns and thinking of young people.

The world heritage education projects, volunteer projects and various awards for the world also take young people as one of the main target groups to carry out activities, summarize experiences and recommend practices.

  In view of this, we set the heritage guide group as the "Million Youth League".

On the one hand, in the face of the long-standing and profound Chinese civilization, we have the awe of "we are all teenagers"; We encourage young people to express their views on the world heritage from their own perspectives, and also bring more possibilities for the dissemination of the topic of world heritage culture.

  At the same time, we have planned some events with public participation, cultural ritual and artistic expression.

For example, Luoyang's "Five Dynasties Chinese Costume Restoration Show", Jingdezhen's "Porcelain Universe Exhibition", Yangzhou's "Domino Grand Canal", transform traditional culture into a fashionable perspective, a combination of innovation and ingenuity, and modern installations. Presenting; the drone performance of Yin Ruins in Anyang, the “dialogue with Beijingers” in Zhoukoudian, and watching the flag-raising ceremony on the central axis of Beijing, the spirit of the world heritage has been transformed into a tribute to the contemporary era, human beings, and people in all walks of life.

These out-of-the-box expressions that stimulate curiosity and express youthfulness have attracted more young people's attention and demonstrated the vitality of traditional culture.

The Fireworks and Aesthetics of the World Heritage

  World heritage is not only ancient, but also modern and contemporary. It is not solidified in a historical stage, but passed down through generations; the value elements of world heritage not only have material aspects, but also the non-material aspects of each other. Level; the protection and management of world heritage is not a castle in the air, but the efforts and love shown by many cultural relic workers and local people for these heritages.

  All of these make the world heritage rich in "fireworks" and present the most vivid side.

Therefore, we walked into the city life where the world heritage site is located, explored the way of life in the world heritage site, explored the past and present life of the original site of the heritage site, and awakened the resonance in our hearts; They have a sense of family and country in the protection and management of world heritage, and carry forward the spirit of the responsibility of defending the soil and the craftsmanship of a great country.

  Every heritage site has its own unique beauty. Discover heritage from an aesthetic point of view, and present the colorful landscape of China and the endless charm of Chinese culture through "beauty" in an all-round way, which is in line with the meaning of cultural inheritance and youth.

The forest symphony concert in Wuyi Mountain, the poetry conference in Lushan Mountain... The cultural heritage not only tells the Chinese people's simple feelings of perfection and beauty, but also carries our sustenance for a beautiful China and a better life.

  Through walking, searching and seeking, we present China's unique landscape and historical and cultural context, tell the story of generations of Chinese people searching for and watching the roots of Chinese culture, highlighting the cultural spirit since ancient times, linking the value of history and reality, and paying attention to the present cultural expression.

  Looking at the 5,000-year history of Chinese civilization, the ideology, humanistic spirit and moral norms contained in it have nurtured excellent traditional culture.

We must fully combine the requirements of the times, inherit and innovate the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and use it as the soil and source of the excellent qualities of contemporary youth.

  With our active communication momentum, we let the audience, especially the youth group, empathize with the essence of the excellent traditional Chinese culture.
