George Michael's family is suing rapper Tory Lanez.

The singer's heirs claim that they refused the artist the right to use a sample of

Careless Whisper

, George Michael's hit, released in 1985. But that didn't stop him from placing it on his new title

Enchanted Waterfall

and broadcast it on all streaming platforms.

“It has come to our attention that the song

Enchanted Waterfall

by artist Tory Lanez incorporated an unauthorized sample from

Careless Whisper

written by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.

The request for permission for this use was denied in June 2021. We have therefore taken immediate action on behalf of the authors, in collaboration with our publishers Warner Chappell Music, to prevent any further exploitation, as we will not tolerate any use unauthorized songs appearing in the catalogs of George Michael and / or Andrew Ridgeley, "said the heirs of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley in a joint statement relayed by

Variety

.

Discreet

Tory Lanez, for his part, is discreet and did not wish to respond to the requests of the publication.

But

Variety

says it's likely the rapper decided to release the track knowingly and didn't care what George Michael's heirs thought.

His song has already been removed from Spotify, but it still exists on Apple Music and YouTube, in particular, where he has accumulated more than 4 million views.

In any case, this is not the only appointment with justice for Tory Lanez this year.

He is due to appear on April 5 in the case opposing him to Megan Thee Stallion, who accuses him of having knowingly shot him in the foot.

The rapper faces up to 22 years in prison if convicted.
