• The Montpellier Museum of Urban Arts wants to make "eternal, works [of street art] which are, by definition, ephemeral", says Pablo Néry, its creator.

  • This virtual museum offers free 360° virtual tours of the spot in the city where street art is king: the quays of Verdanson.

More neighborhoods will be added soon.

  • The districts will be reshooted regularly in order to keep track of the evolution of street art in the districts of the city, beyond the reach of time.

Street art, in essence, does not last.

Most of the works always end up being covered up by others, fading over time and weather, or disappearing with the blows of high-pressure cleaners.

In Montpellier (Hérault), the Maum, the Museum of Urban Arts, wants to break this fatal destiny, by making "immortal, eternal, works which are, by definition, ephemeral", confides Pablo Néry, its creator, also founder of the Murum, a workshop at the Beaux-Arts.

This online museum offers free 360° virtual tours of the Montpellier spot where street art is king: the quays of Verdanson.

You can stroll in this vast stream, at Corum, Aubes, Parc à Ballon or near Saint-Charles, to discover the graffiti or collages that make this place famous, without moving from your sofa.

This astonishing project is an answer to a question “which has been bothering us for a long time about the ephemeral nature of street art”, says Pablo Néry.

A “testimony of our societies”

The whole point, continues this fan of street art, is also to preserve a "testimony of our societies, that street arts constitute and will constitute today, and in the future".

The districts will thus be reshooted regularly by the Maum team, thanks to specific cameras, in order to keep track of the evolution of street art in the districts of the city, beyond the reach of time.

“The old visits will always remain accessible, continues the founder of the Maum.

Thus, you will be able to discover the quays of Verdanson in January 2022, March 2022, or January 2032!

Soon, virtual tours of other spots in Montpellier will be put online.

As for the artists, the concept interests them a lot, assures the founder of the Maum, “and always arouses a smile.

For some, it meets a real need.

One of them even told us: "I dreamed about it, you did it!"

Everything suggests that in the short term, artists will also be valuable contributors.

The artist Ador, whose quirky-headed characters travel around the world, is one of the artists referenced in this virtual museum.

“I tend to think that this practice is especially appreciated in the street, he confides.

But, inevitably, with social networks and the Internet, many pieces are seen through the screen.

But what's great about this project is that we can keep track.
