At the microphone of Isabelle Morizet in the program "There is not just one life in life" on Sunday, the equestrian choreographer Bartabas looks back on his personal and professional journey.

And in particular on his show on Tibet, whose world tour made the Chinese government react at each of its stages.

INTERVIEW

It is hard to imagine the equestrian shows of Bartabas, as splendid as they are, at the heart of an international geopolitical controversy.

It was however a reality between 2003 and 2005, during the world tour of his show "Loungta".

The artist, guest on Sunday of Isabelle Morizet

's program There is not just one life in life

, explains on Europe 1 why.

In "Loungta", Bartabas was inspired by the culture and history of Tibet to build a work, accompanied live by the music of the monks of the monastery of Gyuto.

When this show stops in Japan, Bartabas is received in private audience by the Dalai Lama.

A meeting that displeased China, which tried to intimidate the Japanese organizer from the arrival of his troop.

"It's true, but not only in Japan!" Confirms Bartabas with a smile, before completing his answer.

The Ambassador's Letters

"It was a show about Tibet," he recalls.

"And during the two and a half years that the show lasted around the world, each theater or opera director who welcomed us received a letter from the Chinese embassy saying to them, 'Attention, what is said in this show is not true'. Anyway, all the usual official talk."

A regular intervention by the Chinese authorities which will have had "no impact" on the troupe of Bartabas and on the tour of the show "Loungta", according to the equestrian choreographer.

"But it's still quite interesting that the Chinese embassies are interested in a small horse show that will not change politics," he analyzes mischievously.
