"Dubai Culture" expands the scope of borrowing books through the digital library

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced the expansion of the book borrowing service through its digital library, in cooperation with OverDrive, one of the largest international companies in the field of digital books, providing a valuable collection of e-books and audiobooks, in addition to video clips.

This came in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a smart city, and in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to make a transition Quality in the level of government services in the Emirate of Dubai, at all levels.

This step comes from the two main objectives of the Dubai Model Center, which are to raise the efficiency of services and increase focus on customers, as Dubai public libraries seek to have their digital library collection compatible with smart phones, tablets, and computers, and include a variety of reading materials In various recreational, professional, and academic fields, and continuing education books, in addition to various linguistic and scientific contents, as well as new content that will be constantly added to the site.

Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, Executive Director of the Arts and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, said: “This initiative comes as part of the authority’s commitment to continuous improvement of services provided in Dubai public libraries, which contributes to achieving customer satisfaction and enhancing the welfare of society, as a top priority in Dubai and the UAE. As well as being in line with its corporate strategic priority in achieving institutional excellence, and improving the happiness of its customers.”

He added: “We seek to facilitate access to knowledge, and allow the beneficiaries of library services, whether students, researchers or readers, to access other knowledge sources around the world, and enable them to view wider collections of books in various fields of their interests.

This new initiative is a further step in this framework, as it provides a valuable collection of e-books and audiobooks, in addition to videos.”

Bin Kharbash indicated that the authority has made improvements to the customer's journey to benefit from the services of the digital library;

To be an easy-to-access and quick-completion experience, and in line with the needs of customers, the service can be accessed entirely electronically through the website and public libraries application, access through simple steps to the digital library, and choose the book borrowing service.

Members can reserve five knowledge materials during a single seven-day period for e-books and audiobooks, and five days for videos.

To benefit from the digital library, the user must be a member of Dubai Public Libraries, and his membership must be valid.

The digital library is characterized by the availability of data related to the customer’s account, such as: the maximum number of materials borrowed, the borrowed addresses, the reservation limit, and the available wish list items.

At this stage, the digital library provides 3,788 books, distributed among e-books, audio and video clips.
