The Montpellier company Verdangry has created a small birdhouse, a “jardinichoir”, designed to be installed on the railings of even the smallest terraces.
This small box has three alcoves to house pairs of sparrows.
And two other lodgings, on the sides, so that pipistrelles can hide.
Because shelters are rare for these species in urban areas.
What if your balcony was also a haven for birds?
The Montpellier company Verdangry has created a small birdhouse, designed to be installed on the railings of terraces, even the smallest ones.
"From the 1st floor, even if we recommend placing it on the 2nd and 3rd floors, which are the most suitable for cash," says Anthony Gontier, engineer and founder of Verdangry.
This "garden box" offers the possibility for small birds to stay on your balcony.
This small box, equipped with a 9 liter steel planter on the top, has three alcoves to shelter couples of sparrows, which the human presence does not disturb.
And two other lodgings, on the sides, so that pipistrelles, very small bats, can hide during the day.
Before going to hunt flies and mosquitoes at night.
Because shelters are becoming rare for these species: renovations are removing the holes in the walls of buildings, and the tiles, which allowed sparrows to brood their young, are no longer popular with builders.
do something for nature
“If you don't have a green space, if you don't have a garden, doing something for nature can seem a bit complicated,” continues Anthony Gontier.
This solution allows these people, who have the will to act, to be able to do so.
The crowdfunding campaign, launched by the young company on Kisskissbankbank.com, has been extended and will end in a few days.
But it is already successful, and Verdangry already has some contacts with garden centers or DIY stores to distribute its nest box.
The shelter is offered today, on the crowdfunding campaign, at 249 euros.
"It's prohibitive, we know it perfectly", agrees Anthony Gontier, who assures that he and his associates, Emilien Lauret and Philippe Ferrer, are working thoroughly on "the industrialization of the product, to reduce the cost price, and therefore the final price.
But there is one parameter on which the young company will never compromise, she assures.
“We want the wood we use to be French-cut and labeled,” continues the entrepreneur and engineer from Montpellier.
We also want to use Occitan skills, to maintain closeness with our partners.
It's not made in China, it's not wood from Romania.
These are our values.

But this nest box is only a first step for Verdangry.
The company has lots of other ideas in the pipeline, to make wildlife feel as good as possible in the city.
