Operation Barkhane is taking on a new face in the Sahel.

Emmanuel Macron announced the end of their operations in Mali on February 17.

Almost three weeks after this announcement, three Malian bases namely Menaka, Gossi and Gao are being withdrawn.

Barkhane intends to maintain a presence in the so-called "three borders" area - where Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger meet - a stronghold of terrorist groups in the region.

And this requires cooperation with the regional armies, in particular those of Niger and Chad.

General Laurent Michon, commander of Operation Barkhane, is coordinating this redeployment on the ground.

He answers RFI's questions from Barkhane's headquarters in Ndjamena, Chad.
